Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Advent 2020

I feel I am slightly out of step today, being in lockdown has thrown me slightly and I actually thought it was the first tomorrow. Opps!

Before I forget, 'A pinch and a punch it's the first of the month' Mrs Beez.

So, it is the first of December today, as I said a slight surprize. I have quite a lot to share with you today and think I shall split it into two or three posts. First up are the set of boxes I have made to give to my BFF for her Advent Calendar. As regular visitors know, for many, many years I have been giving my friend a small gift every day during December. In recent years I have been making her a padded box to keep the little parcels in and every year I have made the box slightly smaller so they will stack (or nest if she wants to put them away) and this year is no different, except this year the boxes have become so small I have made her seven to hold all of the gifts.

The boxes are made from thick card, which I cover with fabric and hand stitch together.  The lids are padded with wadding to give it that soft dome shape.

Inside the boxes I have put 31 small presents - I know that traditionally there are 24, sometimes 25, little gifts in an Advent Calendar, but we like to have a little surprise each day for the whole month.

Once the boxes were filled , I tied them together with quite a few ribbons and put a star on the top.  I wanted to make it look like a Christmas tree, but I am not sure that worked!

This will have to be the last year for the padded boxes and next year I shall have to think of something else to put my presents in. Whatever I come up with will not be anywhere close to as inventive as my friend has been this year, just wait to see what my presents from her have arrived in ....................

A reindeer footstool.  Isn't it amazing?  I have no idea where my friend finds these things, she certainly makes me feel very unimaginative.

It has this wonderfully tactile 'fur', and the cutest little face.  I think she looks like a girl, what do you think?  All day I have been trying to pick a name for her, but nothing quite suits her, do you have any suggestions?

I am sure you spotted the lid, lift it up and there is a storage compartment full of presents - even reindeer wrapping paper and gift tags, brilliant!

I will be back later with more posts. Enjoy your day.

  1. What a treat to have so many goodies in one post AND more than one post to boot! Your boxes are just incredible and I loved how you stacked them up like a tree. The reindeer footstool is fabulous and fun. How could you not look at it and smile? Can't wait to see what name you choose. And well done for getting me with a pinch and a punch - it was just past midnight when I got Mr Beez! 🤣x

    1. I should have known that you would be the first with the pinch and punch. When I was at school you would have got 'A punch and a kick for being so quick'! Although I was only just behind you, it must have been around 2 am when I wrote the post and then scheduled it for a more respectable time.

Ideas for the reindeer name so far are Daisy, Gertrude and Primrose. I am sure there will be more.

    1. Thank you Carol. I am already trying to think of what I am going to get her for next Christmas, how do I top a reindeer footstool?

  3. I thought of some very unoriginal Christmas themed names such as Holly, Ivy, Clementine, Snowflake, Snowball, Noelle, Angel, Marley plus Cupid from the original poem and then Clara from the Nutcracker. Then I thought I'd better stop thinking and go to sleep 🤣

    1. Oh, wow my head is spinning Lisette.

Thank you, now I will not be able to sleep thinking about all of these names.
