Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Little Bo Peep

Good morning

I am sooooo excited today.  Today sees the start of another challenge at Crafty Boots Challenges and this time the theme has been set by me.

The theme is Children's Stories.  This could be modern stories or something more traditional, for example Roald Dahl or Lewis Carroll, or something more classical like a Fairy Tale.  Or it could be a Nursery Rhyme.

I have been collecting images for this challenge for months and I have so many.  When it came to making my mind up about which one to use for my DT card, well, I just couldn't make up my mind, I wanted to make them all into cards.  So, I have set myself a challenge, I have not counted how many images I have, but I must have over a dozen and I am going to try to post a different card every morning for the duration of this challenge.  They may not all be new images or ones illustrating specific stories, I shall also be raiding my extensive collection of images and rubber stamps and using my imagination.

Anyone who knows me well will tell you that it takes me hours to make a card.  Therefore, I do not anticipate much housework getting done for the next two weeks, in fact, my hubby could be lucky to get fed!

For my first card I have chosen the nursery rhyme 'Little Bo Peep'.

I have been wanting to make a double twisted easel card for ages but had not found the perfect pair of images, that is, until now.  Bo Peep and her sheep are both Mo Manning images and they are just what I was looking for.

I coloured them with Promarkers and mounted them on silver mirri card and some purple glitter card from DoveCraft.  I also added a bow and a small bell to Bo's shepherds crook.

After making the basic double twister easel card I covered the base with some white and purple polka dot paper from Papermania and added some white satin ribbon and some purple organza ribbon, I also added two purple buttons to act as stops.

I also printed the words to the first verse of the nursery rhyme and mounted that on some silver polka dot mirri card.

If you have never come across this rhyme, the words are ......

Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep,
And can't tell where to find them;
Leave them alone, And they'll come home,
Wagging their tails behind them.

Little Bo-peep fell fast asleep,
And dreamt she heard them bleating;
But when she awoke, she found it a joke,
For they were still a-fleeting.

Then up she took her little crook,
Determined for to find them;
She found them indeed, but it made her heart bleed,
For they'd left their tails behind them.

It happened one day, as Bo-peep did stray
Into a meadow hard by,
There she espied their tails side by side,
All hung on a tree to dry.

She heaved a sigh and wiped her eye,
And over the hillocks went rambling,
And tried what she could, as a shepherdess should,
To tack each again to its lambkin.ind them.

(My thanks to Wikipedia for the words.)

The rest of the Design Team have made some amazing things for this challenge, please pop across the the Crafty Boots Challenges site and take a look for yourself.  Don't forget to enter your own creations into this challenge, I am really looking forward to seeing the things you have made.

Well, we shall see whether I am able to keep up with my personal challenge.  Please come back and check on my daily progress and let e know what you think of my work.

I really do appreciate the support and encouragement I receive.  Thank you so much for the comments you leave, you have no idea how much I appreciate them.

  2. There's always something fascinating about seeing what the person who set the challenges designs and I am thrilled that you have been so busy collecting ideas that you have had too many ('cos that's what happens to me!) Good luck with your challenge of one a day - the housework will still be there whether you do it or not so I say leave it! Love Little Bo Peep... wonder what tomorrow holds?!
