It's a very chilly weekend here, I hope you are managing to stay warm. At this time of year we make a big deal about sending Christmas cards and buying presents but the most important things are keeping warm and having enough to eat.
I do not know whether I am typical, but when I am making cards I quickly become bored with doing the same thing over and over again. So, I try out different things, different embellishments, changing the shape of my card, constantly seeking inspiration. I suppose that is why it takes me so long to make my cards.
During the summer I was doing a bit of on-line shopping when I spotted an Advent Calendar featuring a row of dogs watching Santa and his sleigh flying across the night sky. I thought that it would make a wonderful gift for a friend who is mad about dogs. So, a few weeks ago I went onto the site and ordered the Advent Calendar for her.
When it arrived I received a set of 5 charity Christmas cards - same image, just much smaller and not an Advent Calendar. I have no idea whether I ordered the wrong thing or if they sent me the wrong thing. I quickly ordered the right thing but this left me with 5 Charity cards which I did not particularly want. So I decided to give them the Dionne makeover and, because of my low boredom threshold, I challenged myself to give each one a slightly different makeover. Oh, and by the way, they turned out not to be all dogs, there is also a cat and a rabbit!
I mounted each card the same, with silver mirri card and Night of Navy card from Stampin' Up. To this card I added Mulberry poinsettia flowers, which I bought many years ago from
Wild Orchid Crafts.
As you can see, this one I decorated with silver organza ribbon and one of my new snowflake die cuts.
I kept this one pretty simple - just the addition of some baker's twine and a few flat backed gems.
This card also received the baker's twine treatment and I added a little decoupages Santa in the corner. I also put some Polar White Flower Soft onto the rooves.
And finally, two die cuts made from silver mirri card - these are both Memory Box Dies, I have had them for such a long time but they are still amongst my favourites.
For all of those who like to know these things, the card blanks are from Craftwork Cards and the sentiments came from ebay.
I am sure you are all waiting to find out how those little guys did in the Elf World Cup and I am afraid I do not know. I have asked and will let you know if I hear anything. Funny, there was nothing on the BBC, I looked, but the sport news was all about someone called Harry Kane!
Let's take a peek and find out what Daisy and Danny got up to last night ....
Ah, the elves have bought writing paper and envelopes for the children to write their letters to Santa, it's a good job they do not have rely on the Royal Mail to deliver their letters! And what's this about a spa day?
Oh look Daisy and Danny have adjoining baths with lots of bubbles - I just adore their rubber duck .. err reindeer ... err?
It seems that Daisy and Danny were not the only elves delivering writing packs last night ....
Louis and Coco had the same idea. I know some children who are going to be very busy today.
Stay safe and stay warm.

Ah, us Brits and our football, we are still complaining about Maradona and the Hand of God - and that was in 1986 (wow, that's almost 40 years ago).
DeleteThink we could all do with a Spa Day - in a very warm spa.

I'm like you, get bored after making the first. However, you certainly didn't get bored making these, they are very individual and beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Faith. I really enjoyed making them, altough was pressed to come up with something different towards the end.

You've transformed those cards brilliantly. You definitely have a magic touch when it comes to layouts, layers and embellishments. I'm totally in love with the snowflake but now the tree too! What a fun spa day - those sunglasses are too funny. Sorry your other cards disassembled themselves! Perhaps the elves sneaked in when you weren't looking! xxx
ReplyDeleteThat's it, you have got it! I am a victim of those naughty elves. This also goes a long way to explaining why we have not seen so much of them this year - they are roaming the countryside playing pranks. Nonetheless, it is so sad when they all go back to the North Pole though.
DeleteThat snowflake was part of a triple die and it only cost pennies. The Christmas tree is one I have had ages but a good buy.
Have a good week.
