Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Mini Photo Album

For those of you following my saga of the current heatwave I can report that the predicted thunder storms arrived last night, there was not a lot of thunder but when it went, it went on for ages each time and it was deafeningly loud.  We have had more storms this morning and the temperature has dropped.  It is now bright and sunny and very pleasant.

I recently saw a very attractive photograph album on YouTube, it reminded me of the little album I was given when I left my last job, my colleagues has used it as an autograph book and had filled it with messages of goodwill.

It gave me an idea to make an album for the snaps I took at the recent wedding of my niece.  I based my designed  on this mini album, which I made a couple of years ago ....

This mini album only had half a dozen pages so I needed to come up with a design with more pages, this made me think of the autograph book I was given when I left my old job.  That album had a hinged arrangement and, in theory at least, using this design I could add as many pages as I wanted.

I gave my album twenty A5 pages, I left small spaces between each page so I could comfortably add embellishments to decorate the pages.

I used extra thick card to make the cover, it was part of the packaging from my Stampin' Up Glimmer Paper which I had hung on to.  I covered it with papers from my current favourite paper stack - The Promise by First Edition.

I decided to use different coloured card for my pages and whilst they are all an identical size, gluing them so they all lined up perfectly proved to be somewhat problematic.  I am sure practice would make perfect ..... eventually!

Here is a close up of the hinge.  (Which I based on hinge of the autograph album - its pages were all perfectly aligned!)

If you look very closely you will spot that this photograph is being held in place but some low tack tape.  The reason for this is because when I printed the photographs for this album my printer ran out of ink and I only managed to print 18 of the 40 photographs I intended to put into this album.  When the replacement ink arrives, I will print the rest of the snaps and move everything into their final positions.  I will then decorate the pages with butterflies, flowers, hearts etc.

Now, there was another reason I made this mini album this week, over at Crafty Boots Challenges the theme of the current challenge is 'Anything But a Card' and I thought that this project would qualify nicely.

There is still plenty of time for you to enter your project into this challenge

Good luck.

  1. Wow, these albums are so much work, bravo to you! Beautiful and functional, best projects aren't they! We've just had our fourth rain of the year... and it was sweeeeeet!! We had a bit of thunder too, although nothing too deafening. Rain is my favourite weather so I sucked in every rain drop! tee hee. hugs :)

    1. It rained on and off all day yesterday but today is a beautiful, fresh day with not a cloud in the sky. I love days like this (so much better than hot, sticky days).

I am sure you and your wonderful landscape could do with a lot more rain.

  2. Wow - what a brilliant album. Love the idea of all the different coloured pages and can't wait to see it once completed. No thunder in Hucknall but the rain did wake me up...at 2.30am :( x

    1. Thank you, I must make sure I take some photos.

Over the weekend we have had half a dozen thunder storms, but they have been more like showers and the sun has come out afterwards and it has been getting very humid at times.

    1. Thank you very much. It wasn't that hard to make but I have got lazy and it took me a while to work out all of the measurements for the page spacers. I have my fingers crossed that it does not fall apart!!
