Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Advent Countdown - Day 13

Welcome to day 13 of my 2018 Advent adventure, I hope you are well?  This is the first of two posts I shall be making today.

Today's beanie hat is something of experiment as I did not have a pattern.  When I was making the undies for Day 9 I was struck by how much the holly leaves looked like antlers.  I can hear you saying that it's a  bit of a stretch of the imagination, well perhaps, but I could see it..

I needed a fourth hat to make up the numbers and I realised that I did any have any  beanie hats in the knitted bears collection, but I do have plenty of hat patterns for humans.  I sized one of these down and then I added a ring of the holly leaves - but in brown.  Once it was finished I added some red beads to represent Rudolph's red nose and I made a small pom-pom incorporating all of the colours I had used in the hat.  What do you think?

Oh, before I forget, this beanie is made in 4 ply cotton.  the only problem with 4 ply cotton is that it has no stretch in it and therefore the ribbing around the edge does not pull in to fit nice and snug.

My friend has sent me a photograph of her bears, Daisy and Donovan, wearing the clothes they have received so far ...

I shall be back with another post this afternoon, I hope you can join me.

  1. Daisy and Donovan look so smart with their beautiful outfits. Lovely to see everything paired up. I totally get the holly and antlers connection. I used to make reindeer cupcakes with a red smartie for the nose and antlers, cut from chocolate sugarpaste using a holly leaf cutter. Love the beanie, especially the combination of colours and how they come togetherin the pom pom.x

    1. Thank you Lisette. I had to laugh at the mis-match of their clothes. The Santa outfit is almost complete (I think my friend must have forgotten that I sent Donovan a Santa Hat for Christmas last year so he is 'borrowing' one from the Elf on a Shelf.) I also love that Daisy has paired the brown skirt with her elf outfit - in fact, the beanie hat goes with the brown skirt, but don't tell anyone else.

    1. Thank you Carol, I had a feeling you would enjoy the pic of Daisy and Donovan - I think a hat really suits Daisy.
