Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Christmas Seashore

I am back today with day four of my Christmas in July Elf Challenge. (If you did not see my post on Monday you may find it helpful to check it out so you will know what I am am babbling about.)

When I first started making these clothes for my niece's elves I just picked random patterns, I gave no thought to matching dresses and jumpers - that came later. However I did go back and try to match those already made and, where there was not obvious winter theme, I added beads and charms in an attempt to give them a more Christmassy feel.

For all of my elf clothes in this challenge I have used Julie Williams 'Seasonal Dresses' and 'Seasonal Sweaters' for the basic pattern for my designs. These pattern was designed to fit the 'Little Cotton Rabbits' series but my niece's elves are slightly larger, so I made them in Double Knit rather than 4 ply. I am always amazed at how much knitting yarn can vary in thickness, these clothes are made made in DK, yet they have come up so much larger than the ones I shared with you earlier this week.

I found displaying the clothes to show them at their best very hard. I have a little manikin ornament, which was just the right size for my miniature creations.

Julie gives all of her designs a name and this dress pattern is called 'Seashore' (I assume this is because of the wavy lines).  I chose red and green yarn for the colours association with Christmas decorations - and the yellow was the closest I could get to gold.

I added the little candy cane charm to add a little Christmas cheer to this design.

I used the same design as the dress, with a little adjustment, it to replicate the 'waves' on the sweater. I added another candy cane charm to the sweater.

PS I realise that this will soon become rather monotonous, after all there is only so much you can saw about a knitted dress and sweater and, as much as I love to read your comments, I will understand if you do not feel you have anything to say.

    1. Thank you. I thought the candy cane ended up looking a it like a leek on St David's Day!

I do not think you will be disappointed with tomorrow's post.

    1. Many thanks Carol. The candy cane was a little difficult to attach but I got there.
