I am a great admirer of the amazing Zentangle art I see on Pinterest, but I never realised just how skilled these artist are until I tried it for myself. The recent Crafty Boots Black and White Challenge gave me the idea to try my hand at Zentangle.
I sat down with a plain sheet of card and discovered my first problem, where to start and then I needed to find suitable patterns for my design. This is actually my second attempt, I tried to cram too much into my first design, too many patterns and the overall effect looked like a lot of chicken scratches.
For my second attempt I took my inspiration from some of those artists on Pinterest and some of my other ideas came from my collection of stencils, I think I need to practice more, but it is sometimes good to push ourselves outside our comfort zones - or so I have been told!
I layered my finished design onto white card and black pearlised papers.

Wow - love your new direction, this looks great. I always think Zentangle should be right up my street, being a serial doodler and all, but it's much harder than it looks. You did a great job here. xx
ReplyDeleteI was totally taken aback by how hard this was - but then I have never been a natural doodler (I always end by turning my doodle into a solid square so nothing remains of my original doodle). I think part of the secret is to invest in the right pens.

Wow Dee, you are blowing my mind right now! Well done with the Zentangle, I have never tried this because it would be a complete disaster! Colour me impressed!! hugs :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so kind Pamellia, I am not a natural at Zentangle and I certainly have a lot to learn. You really should have seen my first attempt, the patterns were all there but that was the problem, tooooo much going on.
DeleteBut you have to try these things, otherwise you never know if you can do it. But with good friends like you and Lisette encouraging me, I will keep pushing myself beyond the safety of what I know ... otherwise I would have never discovered how much I love the shabby chic and the steampunk looks.
Thank you.
