Earlier this week I mentioned that I had recently been staying with a group of crafting friends, away from all distractions, just as and our paper and glue.
I really wanted to use some of this time trying my hand at something different. I was quite literally given a blank canvas and it was up to me how I decorated it. I was thinking mixed media, something all white, lots of flowers, perhaps some distressing. What I ended up with could not have been more different.
I think I was influenced by the stretch of coast not far from where we were staying and, of coarse, the stencil with the beach huts. I started out by giving the canvas a coat of Gesso and then I went over it with white acrylic paint. It was then that it went in another direction. I know it is rather basic, but it was my first attempt, and I rather like it even if my husband thought a 5 year old had made it.
The theme of the current Challenge at
Crafty Boots Challenges is 'Use a Sentiment'. The rest of the Design Team have been busy make some fabulous samples, why not take a look and whilst you’re there you can link up your own project.

Fabulous scene Dionne! Love the canvas base, it makes the sand look so real with the subtle texture! Great bits of glitter! I suddenly want a Pina Colada! hugs :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I started out I wanted to make something more like one of your fabulous projects but I was seduced by the textured glitter paste and the brightly coloured paints.
DeleteBy the way, you are unlikely to find Pina Colada at a Norfolk beach, it's more candy floss (cotton candy) and ice cream!

This is wonderful Dionne, love the textures, gorgeous work!

Simply Paper Card Design
I wish you could touch it Jacee, the green glitter is really thick and the tiny shells are real.

Well I LOVE it! Love what you have done with the glitter paste, both through the stencil and the silver to give the glitteriness of a summer's day. The cluster of shells in the corner is perfect :) xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, the silver is part of the stencil but, because I used the glitter paste, you cannot make out the finer details very well - like the boat on the horizon and the seagull.
DeleteI am so pleased that you like it though. I plan to have another go at a canvass this weekend ..... something a little different to this.

Lovely design, really effective stenciling
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for leaving a lovely comment on my blog
Happy Monday!

ReplyDeleteHi Lisa
DeleteThank you, I am fascinated by beach huts and as a child always envied the people who did not have to carry everything to the beach every day.
