Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Crochet Santa Scarf

Now here's a thing.  Some of the more observant of you will have noticed that I have taken a step back from my role on the Crafty Boots Design Team.  It has been almost five and a half years since I joined the team and I felt it was time for me to have a break, recharge my batteries and get my mojo back.  I hope that it will also give me the opportunity to reconnect with some of my old hobbies, such knitting, crochet and sewing.

I started to do this in the run up to Christmas when I decided to make one or two Christmas presents for my family and friends.

This is the first of those gifts I intend to share with you.  I have had the pattern for this crochet scarf for two or three years but, because of other commitments, I never found time to make it.  Last month I found the time and made it for one of my nieces, I wish I had made it sooner because it took very little time to make and my niece loved it.

I got this free pattern from Ravelry but, as it was for a child, I had to enlarge it for my adult niece.  In fact my niece loved it so much I have been wondering whether I can adapt to pattern to make an elf for her - do elves have beards?

I hope you will enjoy the other non-paper projects I shall be sharing with you in future.

    1. Thank you. I taught myself how to crochet from the back page in a pattern book. So whilst my stitches are correct I always get a lecture from other crocheters for holding the yarn and hook incorrectly, but it is too late to way change now!

But now we have Youtube and it is really easy to learn now.

  2. Well I just had to stop in and see this up close after skimming by the thumbnail in my reading list. This is the most amazing scarf EVER!! I just love how cheery and jolly it is. It would be impossible to be in a mad mood if you had this wrapped around your neck. You are so talented Dionne, I just adore your creative spirit!! sending hugs :)

    1. Ow, what a lovely thing to say. Thank you so much. I have to be honest, it was really quick and easy to make. The same niece has just asked me to knit some dresses for her female Elf on a Shelf, that should be an interesting project!

    1. I think most of us start crocheting by mking little blankets, I know I did. But it is a good way of learning basic stitches, I wonder how many trebles I made in those early years - thousands. Then I switched to rows using doubles.

This scarf pattern only uses the one stitch (plus a made up stitch for the nose - I had trouble with this but I just did my best to make a bobble shape). I bet you could do this pattern, it is free so why not download it and give it a go?

    1. My niece adores it but she will not wear it now - pre Christmas only, so I am thinking of making a more neutral one for everyday.
