For a long time I have wanted to try my hand at rock painting and I do mean a long time, it has been something like eighteen months. It has not been just the knitting which has stopped my trying this, it is also the fact that I am one of the worse artists you could ever encounter, I cannot draw for toffees! If buying all the equipment could make you a better artist, I would be exhibiting at Tate Modern. I have all the paints, the varnish, the brushes, the mod-podge, the PVA glue, the dowling rods to make medullas, paper napkins to do decoupage etc, etc and I have watched endless video clips on 'how to', but still something was holding me back.
Then, me and my big mouth, I suggested a family rock painting day during half term with my nieces and nephews and their small children. The day was to start with a rock hunt and I promised to make a rock for everyone to find hidden somewhere in the garden, so I was committed to doing something.
As the day got closer I was still putting off actually painting the rocks because I knew I would mess it up if I tried to paint even a simple scene. Then I hit on the idea of using temporary body tattoos to decorate the rocks. I was not sure it would work but it was worth a try, the results were simple but I think it it worked.
Great to see you back Dionne and back with a bang!!!what a brilliant idea my grandaughters have loads of these tattoo stickers-I love the brilliant half eaten choclate candy -genius!!!I can relate to all the craft stash unused I have a list similar to yours actually awaiting inspiration-I can't draw for toffee either thank goodnes for digis and stamps lol

Thank you Carol. I would recommend an afternoon with your grandaughters painting rocks, ours had so much fun. If you are going to use the tattoos, I would suggest that you scrub up your stones and paint them a day or two in advance to give them plenty of time to dry, that way the girls will not be disappointed. There is one rule with rock painting, you are not allowed to take your stones from beaches, they have by-laws and I wouldn't want to see you get into trouble. I bought mine but my sisters picked some up when they were walking their dogs and, of course, they got them from their gardens.
DeleteI am going to try the decoupage thing with paper napkins one of these days, I saw a brilliant one today using a poppy napkin. Haha, I too thank the stars for rubber stamps and digis.

You are very welcome Carol. Hope your girls have a great time. As well as using the tattoos we also used acrylic paints and felt tip pens. Oww and my sister primed her rocks with emulsion paint.
DeleteHave fun.

These look amazing. The pearly finish is stunning but I love the others too. However, the star of the show has to be the chocolate one! Ive never seen that idea and its brilliant, I bet Ryan loved it. Very entertaining blog post too 😊 x

DeleteWelcome back Mrs Beez, I have missed your visits and the lovely comments you always leave.
I managed to screw myself into so many knots before starting this project but, once I actually started, I really enjoyed myself. The chocolate rock was fun (and it was really easy), himself thought I should paint M&M on it and not put Ryan's name - I was hasitant about the tattoos but did not want Rayan to miss out on the fun. (my elder nephew thought that I should have taken a hammer to all of the rocks and given them the same treatment).
There are lots of cardigan posts on the way, but there are one or two non-cardigan ones to watch out for .... and then it will be Advent!

Can't wait x
