Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Advent Tags

Good morning, I hope you are well.

As I type this I cannot help wondering how your countdown to Christmas is going.  I am a little behind with everything but my sister says that I function best when I am under pressure!  I sure hope she is right.

Last week I shared with you a fabric covered box I made for my friend to hold all of the Advent present I had bought for her.  Now to be honest, the box took several days to make and I was very short on time when I sat down to make my Crafty Boots Design Team Projects and all I had to share were the tags I have made to put on the Advent presents.

Each wrapped present needs a number on it so my friend knows which to open each day.  This year I cut two tags, the larger in either gold or silver mirri and the smaller one in either red or blue card.

I then added a different Christmas themed silver charm to the top of each one.  This one had a gingerbread man, others had things like a wreath, a snowflake, Santa, a sleigh, a Christmas tree etc.

As well as the Advent 'calender' I make for my friend each year, I also do one for my husband.  No box for him, one of the first containers I bought for him was a personalised Santa sack and I have used it for his calender every year since.  However, I do have to make tags for him as well.

No frilly charms for him and I made all of his tags the same size and, just to make things a little more interesting, I put the numbers under the top tag - te he!

Last week I promised to share the Advent calender my friend gave to me this year.  I apologise for making you wait but it was so worth it.  How cute is this?

Twenty four tiny houses and inside each one is a tiny present.  My friend has the greatest imagination, try I as I might, I just cannot think of 24 things that small.  Which is why I have to make a fabric covered box each year to put her presents in.

We have been doing this for something like 25 years now and it is so much fun and I would recommend it to anyone.  Another friend of mine decided that she would make her husband one this year but instead for going for small presents she bought her husband 24 bottles of beer.  Each night he posts a critique of that days beer on Facebook, boy is he having a good time.

Have a great day.

    1. To be honest Carol, it takes me all year too. I start buying things while I am Christmas shopping the previous year (usually things which are only in the shops in the run up to Christmas) and I have a box I keep them in. Then, whenever I am shopping throughout the year I am keeping an eye out for anything suitable.

  2. Love the idea of attaching the tags Dionne, and these look really beautiful in the gold and silver! The advent house calendar is wonderful, what a nice gift. Have to say, I think the 24 beer types idea is quite genius! have a great day my friend.

    1. I understand that the beer Advent has been very popular, not just with my friends husband but also with their friends and neighbours. There are quite a few jelous men out there complaining that their wives did not do it for them (luckily for me, my husband does not like beer - now a red wine Advent would be something he would be interested in).

  4. Hi Dionne. Just popping in to talk about the Cardinals. It's funny about their colourings, they sort of change a bit depending on the lighting. When they are out in the daylight, they really are more of a bright reddish orange than a deep red, but when they sit in the shade or on a cloudy day, they look more deep red. Even the colour of the background will change how they look, and I think it may be because their feathers are slightly reflective. Anyway, useless information, but I do love to talk about my wildlife friends. lol happy weekend :)

  5. Love those tags - must take a lot of patience to have them all so beautifully done. Fabulous Advent calendar too - like Christmas beach huts xx

    1. Haha, the first time I saw the little houses I thought beach huts too. Not many left to open now.

I have lost count of the number of tags I eventually cut, something like 250. Thankfully I have almost finish wrapping now.
