I cannot believe that I have not posted anything for two weeks, that is because I have been working on a couple of things which I cannot share with you quite yet.
Today see's a new challenge at Crafty Boots Challenges and it is a very special challenge, chosen by Bev. For the next two weeks the theme of our challenge is Remember.
Several years ago I started to create a scrapbook album of my ancestors. It has been a long time since I added a page and I keep meaning to get it out and work on it, but I constantly get distracted by other projects. I had planned to do just that for this post but I got distracted again!
Next weekend I am going to a crop, I haven't been in a room full of friends to craft for quite a few years and I am really looking forward to next weekend.
Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) have been around for a long time now and, if I am honest, I have never really seen the point of them, I never really got trading cards when I was young either. However, once I started to think of them as hand made business cards I got very enthusiastic about them and I decided to make some to take to the crop. (I will share these with you at a later date.) After that I wanted to make more and I started to form another idea for set of ATCs.
Before going any further, I think I should explain for the benefit of those visitors from outside the UK that in the UK, and the rest of the Commonwealth, Armistice Day (also known as Remembrance Day or Poppy Day) has been observed every year since the end of World War I, to remember members of our Armed Forces who have died in the line of duty. At this time of year hundreds of services are held up and down the country, including one at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London (which is attended by the Royal Family) to honor those who have died. In addition, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month two minutes silence is observed.
The poppy has become the symbol of remembrance and ever since I was a child I have bought my paper poppy and worn in with pride. Money raised from the sale of these poppies goes towards providing support for the Armed Forces and their families.
For my set of ATCs I have used the poppy as my motive.
I made a set of six ATCs, each one slightly different.
I cut six pieces of yellow card to measure 3.5 inches x 2.5 inches and distressed them with Vintage Photo, Wild Honey and Mustard Seed. I used the iconic image of The British Legion poppy, I made mine out of red and green glittered card. To represent the stamen I used black flat backed gems and I used some green embroidery floss for the stem.
Beautiful - interesting to hear about you keeping a scrapbook of your ancestors, if you pop by mine you'll see I'm doing something similar!!!Take care Zo xx
ReplyDeleteI love what you have done with these poppies and they look stunning on that background. Going to have to think hard about this one so I don't repeat myself!! Have a good week x
ReplyDeleteLOVE your ATCs! The backgrounds are amazing and the poppies are stunning! I think that thinking of them as 'hand made business cards' is a really clever way to thin of them... I hadn't thought of that before!
ReplyDeleteHi Dionne
