Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.


I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

For the Fallen

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

The current Crafty Boots Challenge is Remembrance and Giving Thanks.  My card today gives thanks to all of those who have laid down their lives in the defense of this great nation, in the war to end all wars, and every war since.

This beautiful wreath of poppies is by Delicious Doodles and is simply called 'Poppy Wreath',  I coloured it with Promarkers and mounted it on silver mirri and black pearlescent card.  The embossed white card, ribbons and flat backed gems are all from my stash.

      Thank you, my latest poppy digi, I saw it last year and just had to have it. Fancy that, it was my first Delicious Doodle stamp, the first of many. Who would have thought that - at a glance it's not a site you would associate with me.

      I do not know how big Remembrance Day is where you are, I know it is not the same in the US, but it is a big deal in the UK. Our largest military charity is The Royal British Legion, they help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Reservists, veterans and their families. They are also responsible for the Poppy Appeal to remember the fallen and raise money for the living. It is because of their annual campaign to sell little paper poppies that this small flower has come to mean so much to all of us here.

      As a child every November I would watch the Festival of Remembrance on TV with my family and my lasting memory will always be the poppy petals falling from the sky. Each poppy petal represented a life given defending this country. (See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvkpDWU8tqU).
