Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

100 Today

In these very worrying times it is good to have something to celebrate.  The mother of a good friend is 100 years old today, sadly she is in a nursing home, spending 24 hours a day in her room for her own safety.  Of course, she is not allowed visitors, and only has the telephone to contact her family.

I  felt it called for an extra special card to celebrate her very special day.  I'll be honest, this was not my first attempt at a card for her, but none of the other cards I made seemed to be special enough for this occassion.

I used an 8 x 8 inch Craftwork Cards card blank with red glitter card from my stash.  I made the lettering out of gold card using a couple of dies.  The roses and leaves are from Wild Orchid Crafts and the happy birthday sentiment was from my stash.

As you can see, it is rather thicker and larger than a 'normal' card.  I went all over trying to find an open Post Office  (making sure I kept well away from anyone else out shipping) to have it weighed and measured but all of our local ones were closed because of the lock-down, so I ended up putting half a book of my precious stamps onto the card and crossed my fingers that it would be enough to get it there on time.

Happy birthday Jean's Mum, have a wonderful day.

    1. Thank you Carol, this is more my style of card, I love lots of bling and the paper roses.

I tried our nearest main Post Office first but that is now only open on Thursday's and Friday's. Next we tried a sub-Post Office, I hoped that if the shop was open the Post Office would be too, but that was closed as well even though the shop was open.

I do hope my card arrived in time, I hear that the Queen managed to get her card there in time.

  2. This is superb. I love the richness of the red and gold and then how luxurious those flowers are. I'm sure she will absolutely love this x

    1. Thank you my friend, I managed to dig really deep to find a bit of my old mojo to make this. I had quite a few false starts but eventually put everything else away and made this. Much more satisfying than kits.

The red glitter card is much richer in real life, unfortuately it sheds. Everyone in the nursing home is going to get very sparkly. Opps!

Have a lovely weekend - stay safe.
