Welcome

Hello, my name is Dionne and I have been crafting for a very long time. As a very young child my mother tried to teach me to knit, it was a disaster. However, it must have sparked an interest in making things and, partly to prove that I was not totally useless and partly because I really wanted to make things, I taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have developed a love of cross stitch and all types of paper craft ..... I eventually even taught myself to knit.

I am married to a very understanding man, thank goodness, because I spend all my time either crafting, thinking about crafting or talking about crafting. I am hopeless at housework and dinner is often late!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

Hi

At the beginning of the month the UK celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.  Our village came together and celebrated with 5 days of fun and games.  We had a parade, a fete, a street party, a ceilidh with dancing, a show, fireworks, competitions, races and many other events, including Morris Dancers - there was something for all the family and a fabulous sense of community.  The weather could have been kinder but it certainly did not dampen our enthusiasm and we had a fantastic time.

Since we moved to the village over twenty years ago there have been several celebratory weekends and the plastic bunting I have been using  over the years is fine but I decided that this year I was going to make my own bunting.  It is something I have always wanted to do, after all, how hard could it be?

It wasn't at all hard but it did take a lot longer than I thought it would, doesn't it always?

A few weeks ago followers of my blog may have spotted mention of me making bunting but I have waited until now to show it to you because it fits so well with the theme of the new Crafty Boots Challenge - use fabric in your project.

I bought 2 meters of five different fabrics and from this I managed to cut 210 triangles (to make 105 pennants when they were stitched together).  I added a layer of interfacing to each pennant to give them a little more body.  Finally, I stitched the finished pennants on to red ribbon.

I wanted my bunting to be a bit different from what you can buy in the shop.  I kept to a red, white and blue theme but chose primarily polka dot fabrics - only one of my fabrics had Union flags as a motif.

I made enough bunting to go all around the house.  Here we are putting it up at the beginning of our long weekend of celebrations.

My bunting has now been washed and pressed, ready for our next party, perhaps we'll have the neighbours round for a BBQ - if it ever stops raining!

I hope you have a good weekend.

  1. Hi Dionne
OMG and WOW, That's one super hand made bunting! Love the fabrics you used for it. Also so handy being able to wash it and have it ready for the next time it is needed. 5 days worth of parties!? Was anyone still standing by the end of it? (LOL)Weather was certainly bad for the occasion but it looks like you had a fantastic time anyway.
