Over those few short years I have accumulated a lot of knitting yarn, and I mean a lot, I have run out of places to stash it. So I decided to knit a few bobble (beanie) hats as Christmas presents to use up the yarn. Just one of two for my little nieces and nephews. In the end I made something like three dozen!
I made pastel hats, football hats, stripy hats and snowflake hats. These are just a few.
Here are some of the hats I made for the ladies ......
these are for the football supporters in the family - the embroidered badges came from ebay .......
and these were for the little ones (see I even made a pair of little blue mittens).
I found a snowflake pattern on a pair of mittens and adapted it for the hats.
These came along too late for the first photo shoot .....
and these I only remembered to photograph just before I wrapped them up.
I really enjoyed making these woolly hats and had trouble putting my needles down, but everyone I know must have a hat from me, and you know what, my stash of yarn does not seem to have gone down. My sister has suggested that the next time I get the urge, I make little hats for premature babies and send them to our local hospital. Good idea.

Oh my, you sure have been keeping busy Dionne! What a wonderful collection of hats! I love the soft colours, but I think my favourite are the snowflakes! How fun are those!! Your pom poms are perfect, dang girl, you got it going on!!
ReplyDeleteWell guess what? As I look outside this morning, I see a half inch of snow, what!!! How excited am I?? It will be gone in a couple of hours, no doubt, so off I go to grab my camera and get some wintery shots while I can. Happy Sunday!

DeleteFunny you should mention the pom poms, in a way I only made all of these hats because of the pom poms. When I was a child we made pom poms by cutting two discs of card with holes in the middle and laboriously winding the wool in and out of the hole, it would take me hours and by the end I would put the wool on a darning needle to get it though the centre. About 18 months ago I saw a pom pom 'loom' for sale and ordered myself a set, it has made making pom poms so easy and they are done in about 5 minutes. I became so excited I started knitting the hats so I had an excuse to make them. There are 4 differet sized looms in the pack I bought and if you look carefully you will see that I have used three of them, the small ones on one of the pink hat above are so cute, I put them on strings so they bounce around!

Brilliant collection of hats and bobbles I remember making these with cardboard circles too used to take ages lol.I used to knit for mine when they were little and babies small things are so much easier to make

They were fun to make Carol and most of the people I gave them to have worn them. However, we have discovered one thing the hard way ... not to wash them in the washing machine because the pom poms fall apart - surprize!

Wow these are amazing! This is what O want to learn...to knit hats. I like the idea about you sending off newborn hats for the hospitals. That would be so kind and special. These are great.

DeleteI taught myslef to knit about 3 years ago by watching clips on YouTube, it may be worth trying.
